Syndromic surveillance summary: 27 April 2023 week 16

Reporting week 16: 17 April to 23 April 2023
During week 16, GP in-hours consultations for allergic rhinitis increased in line with seasonal expectations. GP in-hours consultations and emergency department (ED) attendances for pneumonia decreased but remain above seasonally expected levels. ED coronavirus (COVID-19)-like attendances continued to decrease during week 16.
Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system
During week 16, NHS 111 calls and online assessments for respiratory and gastrointestinal syndromic indicators remained stable or decreased.

GP in-hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 16, GP in-hours consultation rates for allergic rhinitis (hay fever) continued to increase but remain in line with seasonally expected levels. Consultations for pneumonia decreased during week 16 but remain just above seasonally expected levels.

GP out-of-hours syndromic surveillance system
Daily GP out-of-hours contact data from 4 August 2022 onwards has not been received due to a widely publicised disruption faced by one of the GP out-of-hours clinical software system providers. We have since been informed that this disruption was as a result of a cybersecurity incident caused by ransomware. We are working closely with our data provider to restore the daily syndromic feed.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system
During week 16, COVID-19-like ED attendances continued to decrease across all age groups. Attendances for pneumonia decreased slightly but remain above seasonally expected levels. Scarlet fever attendances have stabilised and are now at seasonally expected levels.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system
During week 16, daily ambulance calls for difficulty breathing and headache continued to decrease. All other syndromic indicators were stable during week 16.
