Reporting week 13: 27 March to 2 April 2023
Coronavirus (COVID-19)-like emergency department (ED) attendances decreased during week 13, with attendances decreasing in those aged over 65 years. GP in-hours consultations rate for conjunctivitis continued to increase, particularly in those aged 5 to 14 years. Scarlet fever and influenza-like illness indicators decreased nationally.
Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system
During week 13, NHS 111 calls and online assessments for respiratory indicators, including cold, flu and ‘potential COVID-19’, decreased. Calls and online assessments for diarrhoea and vomiting also decreased. NHS 111 calls and online assessments for eye problems remained elevated, and calls increased in those aged between 1 and 44 years.

GP in hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 13, GP in-hours consultation rates for conjunctivitis continued to increase nationally (particularly in children aged 5 to 14 years) and are above seasonally expected levels.

GP out of hours syndromic surveillance system
Daily GP out-of-hours contact data from 4 August 2022 onwards has not been received due to a widely publicised disruption faced by one of the GP out-of-hours clinical software system providers. We have since been informed that this disruption was as a result of a cybersecurity incident caused by ransomware. We are working closely with our data provider to restore the daily syndromic feed.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system
During week 13, COVID-19-like ED attendances decreased nationally, and notably decreased in those over 65 years of age. Attendances for acute respiratory infection and influenza-like illness also decreased nationally, although influenza-like illness remains slightly above seasonally expected levels. Attendances for gastroenteritis decreased nationally. Scarlet fever attendances continued to decrease nationally, and particularly in those aged 1 to 4 years.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system
During week 13, ambulance calls for cardiac or respiratory increased nationally.
