Syndromic surveillance summary
Reporting week 32: 5 August to 11 August.
During week 32, ‘impact of heat’ syndromic indicators decreased however there was an increase in daily activity over the weekend of 10 to 11 August in line with a Yellow Heat-Health Alert that was in place across parts of England. Emergency department (ED) and GP in-hours COVID-19-like indicators continued to decrease during week 32 while GP in-hours consultations for measles and whooping cough were stable but remained above expected levels.

NHS 111 calls and assessments for ‘heat exposure or sunburn’ and insect bites decreased during week 32 however the number of daily calls and assessments increased again on Sunday 11 August, in line with a Yellow Heat-Health Alert that was in place across parts of England.

GP in-hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 32, GP in-hours COVID-19-like consultations continued to decrease, across all regions and particularly across adult age groups. Measles and whooping cough consultations were stable during week 32 but both remained above expected levels.

GP out-of-hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 32, GP out-of-hours daily contacts for ‘heat or sunstroke’ remained stable . However, there was a increase in daily contacts on Sunday 11 August in line with a Yellow Heat-Health Alert in place over parts of England. Contacts for insect bites decreased and were below seasonally expected levels.

Daily ED COVID-19-like attendances continued to decrease during week 32, across all age groups and regions. Attendances for ‘heat or sunstroke’ decreased throughout the week however there was an increase in attendances observed over the weekend of 10 to 11 August in line with a yellow Heat-Health Alert in place across parts of England.

During week 32, daily ambulance calls ‘impact of heat or cold’ decreased, however there was a further increase in daily calls over the weekend of 10 to 11 August in line with a yellow Heat-Health Alert in place across parts of England.
