During week 46 there were further seasonally expected increases in syndromic indicators for acute respiratory infections (ARIs), lower respiratory tract infections and acute bronchiolitis in children aged under 1 and 1 to 4 years.

During week 46, NHS 111 triaged calls for ARIs increased, particularly for children (up to 14 years), but are at seasonally expected levels. Triaged calls for vomiting increased and were also mostly in the child age groups (up to 14 years).

GP in hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 46, the GP in-hours COVID-19-like consultation rate continued to decrease across all age groups and regions. There were increases observed in upper and lower respiratory tract infections and bronchiolitis consultations in children aged under 5 years. GP consultations for acute bronchitis increased slightly, particularly in those aged 65 years and over.

GP out-of-hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 46, GP out-of-hours contacts for ARIs and acute bronchitis/bronchiolitis increased, particularly in children aged under 5 years. However, activity remained at seasonally expected levels. Contacts for difficulty breathing/wheeze/asthma also increased slightly, again in children aged under 5 years.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system

During week 46, emergency department (ED) attendances for acute respiratory infections increased, particularly in child age groups (up to 14 years), in line with seasonally expected trends.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system

During week 46, ambulance calls for difficulty breathing increased in line with seasonal expectations. Calls for impact of heat or cold increased, coinciding with colder weather.
