Syndromic surveillance summary: 10 April 2025 week 14

Reporting week 14: 31 March to 6 April 2025

During week 14, gastroenteritis syndromic indicators (including diarrhoea and vomiting) decreased or remained stable across most systems but remained above the levels expected for the time of year. GP in-hours consultation rates for allergic rhinitis increased and are above seasonally expected levels.

During week 14, NHS 111 online assessments for both diarrhoea and vomiting decreased, particularly in children aged 5 to 14 years however NHS 111 triaged calls for diarrhoea and vomiting remained stable and above expected levels. NHS 111 triaged calls for eye problems increased in children aged 5 to 14 years.

GP in-hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 14, GP in-hours consultation rates for respiratory conditions including upper respiratory tract infections and influenza-like illness continued to decrease and remained similar to expected levels. Consultation rates for allergic rhinitis continued to increase, with activity reported above seasonally expected levels; increases were particularly noted in adult age groups and the East of England, London, South East and South West regions.

GP out-of-hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 14, GP out-of-hours contacts for acute respiratory infections decreased and were in line with seasonally expected levels. Contacts for gastroenteritis and vomiting remained stable and above expected levels, while diarrhoea contacts decreased but also remained above expected levels.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system

During week 14, ED attendances for influenza-like illness continued to decrease nationally and were approaching seasonally expected baselines. Acute respiratory infection attendances decreased and were in line with seasonal expectations. Gastroenteritis attendances remained stable but above expected levels, particularly in the 1 to 4 years age group.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system

During week 14, there was a slight increase in ambulance calls for allergic reactions nationally.
