Tarmac Trading Limited: application made to abstract water

Tarmac Trading Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number 8/37/25/*G/0028 which authorises the abstraction of water from a groundwater fed excavation at National Grid Reference (NGR) TM 047 224 at the Gravel Pits, Alresford Road, Wivenhoe, Colchester, Essex.
The summary of the variation applied for is to:
- Vary the location to allow abstraction from the freshwater lagoon (movement of 1 kilometre northeast); and
- Vary the abstraction use to include the purposes of mineral washing, dust suppression and wheel washing.
The abstraction is proposed at the rates of:
For the purpose of mineral washing:
- 194 cubic metres an hour
- 2,072 cubic metres a day
- 400,000 cubic metres a year
- All year
For the purpose of dust suppression:
- 22 cubic metres an hour
- 22 cubic metres a day
- 4,268 cubic metres a year
- All year
For the purpose of process wheel washing:
- 6 cubic metres an hour
- 6 cubic metres a day
- 1,232 cubic metres a year
- All year
Tarmac Trading Limited has also applied to the Environment Agency for a transfer licence to abstract (take) water from a groundwater fed excavation within the area formed by the boundary between National Grid References (NGRs) TM 05597 23028, TM 06248 22517, TM 06057 21945 and TM 05527 21971 at Wivenhoe Quarry, Wivenhoe, Essex.
Water will be transferred into either the Sixpenny Brook at NGR TM 05415 22469 or to a freshwater lagoon within the area formed by the boundary between NGRs TM 05773 22846, TM 05743 22812, TM 05651 22886 and TM 05680 22921 via settlement lagoons. All water will be transferred without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 360 cubic metres an hour
- 7,501 cubic metres a day
- 2,737,865 cubic metres a year
- All year
