Duty to confirm or deny whether the GCA holds the information
Under section 1(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, anyone making a request for information to the GCA, as a public authority, is entitled to be informed in writing whether it holds that information, and if so, to be supplied with it.
The GCA is a corporation sole and an independent regulator sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The Adjudicator is appointed by BEIS. The Adjudicator is supported by a small team of staff, all of whom are seconded from public bodies. Though they are not directly and permanently employed by the GCA I have classified these people as permanent staff for the purposes of answering your questions. The GCA occasionally seeks support from temporary contractors. Accordingly, responses to your questions are as follows (numbered to match the numbering in the request above):
- Yes. a. For the FY2021/22 (1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022) total spend was £14,013. b. The full amount (£14,013) was spent on media and communications support.
