Consensus statement by TFMS on mass testing. It was considered at SAGE 53 on 27 August 2020.

The paper presented at SAGE was updated during the meeting and this is the final paper (dated 31 August 2020).

It should be viewed in context: the paper was the best assessment of the evidence at the time of writing. The picture is developing rapidly and, as new evidence or data emerges, SAGE updates its advice accordingly.

Therefore, some of the information in this paper may have been superseded and the author’s opinion or conclusion may since have developed.

These documents are released as pre-print publications that have provided the government with rapid evidence during an emergency.

This paper is supported by a paper written by the TFMS Behavioural Team.

Please note: An error exists in the reference section of this paper. Reference 1 should read: Smith LE, Fear NT, Potts HWW, Michie S, Amlot R, Rubin GJ. Factors associated with requesting an antigen test and self-isolating after developing symptoms of coronavirus. Report to DHSC. 2020a July 17.
