Details

The Allocation of Housing and Homelessness (Eligibility) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 (SI 2013/1467) were laid on 14 June and will come into force on 1 July 2013.

The regulations amend the Allocation of Housing and Homelessness (Eligibility) (England) Regulations 2006 in light of the accession of Croatia to the European Union on 1 July 2013. They provide that nationals of Croatia who are subject to worker authorisation and who are working lawfully in the UK in accordance with the Home Office’s worker authorisation scheme will also be exempted from the requirement to be habitually resident in the UK (or wider Common Travel Area) in order to be eligible for social housing and homelessness assistance.

The department wrote to chief housing officers about the amending regulations on 14 June 2013.
