The Coal Authority has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to transfer water from the Don & Rother Millstone Grit & Coal Measures formation at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 38304 96375, Thorpe Hesley Shaft. The abstracted water will be transferred to a passive treatment system comprising settlement lagoons and reedbeds before being returned to the watercourse at NGR SK 38327 96418 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:

180 cubic metres an hour

4,320 cubic metres a day

1,576,800 cubic metres a year

between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.
The proposed abstraction lies within the Don Upper Hydrometric Catchment and the Don and Rother Abstraction Licensing Strategy reporting area.
