The Environment Agency: application made to impound water
Published 28 November 2024
Applies to England
Details of the application
The Environment Agency has applied to The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence.
The application is for an impoundment licence to authorise and control the removal of the Auckley Gauging Station weir on the River Torne at Auckley, Doncaster, at National Grid Reference SE 64593 01217.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
Proposed works consist of the removal the existing weir, which is no longer needed, to restore the River Torne to a more naturalised watercourse and improve fish access along the watercourse. Modelling and assessment indicate that the final design will result in a slightly reduced flood risk to near-by properties and will not impact the ability of other licensed abstractions from the Torne to take place, as currently.
