The Environment Agency has gathered aerial data and established a new baseline figure for the extent of salt marsh in England and Wales. High resolution aerial photographic images gathered largely between 2006 and 2009 have been used to develop a quality assured map of saltmarsh extent in England and Wales.

This report describes the processes involved in producing a map of saltmarsh extent and examines the consistency of approach in mapping saltmarsh, providing recommendations for future mapping standards.
