Can the Department provide an annual financial breakdown from 2000 to 2010 in dealing with asbestos abatement (white, brown and blue asbestos) within its various estates around England?

Release

The costs below were incurred when removing insulation board and internal fire linings which contained a percentage of amosite (brown) and chrysotile (white) asbestos.

The work was required to facilitate the refurbishment of the physical office environment at the Department’s office in  Darlington. None of the other three properties in Runcorn, Sheffield and London incurred any costs associated with the removal of asbestos between 2000 and 2010.

Based on statutory surveys undertaken during this period, and other information held on site, we believe these properties to be free of asbestos-containing material.

  • £24,721 (ex vat) was spent on asbestos abatement
  • £76,880 (ex vat) was spent on asbestos abatement
