Following important advice from structural engineers about the condition of Grenfell Tower, we need to consider this summer if, and when, the Tower should be carefully taken down to maintain safety.
We wrote a letter to bereaved families, survivors and residents about this earlier in May and we have been sharing and discussing the advice with them to understand any questions, concerns and priorities they might have about the way ahead.
We have now published independent, expert advice that will inform a decision on the future of Grenfell Tower. The documents available include:
- Independent, expert advice from structural engineers on the condition of the Tower, as well as an independent peer review of this advice.
- A summary of available information that we have sought about the public health impacts to protect your mental and physical health.
- An update on correspondence with the Metropolitan Police, the Coroner and the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, to ensure that decisions on the Grenfell Tower site do not interfere with the path to justice.
We would welcome any comments or questions on these documents by the end of July. The MHCLG Grenfell Site team, and the experts who have written the advice, will continue to be available to meet with those most affected, both before a decision is made and thereafter. This can be arranged by:
- emailing GrenfellTowerSite@communities.gov.uk
- calling 0303 444 0011
- visit grenfell2021.eventbrite.com to book a meeting with us and our engineers (before mid-July)
A news story has also been published on GOV.UK about today’s publication.
