The National Trust: application made to abstract water and impound water

The National Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The first application is for a full licence to abstract water from Glencoyne Beck near Ullswater, Cumbria at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 37129 18731.
The application is to abstract water all year at the following rates:
- 324 cubic metres an hour
- 7,776 cubic metres a day
- 2,838,240 cubic metres a year
- At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 90 litres per second.
The water will be used to generate hydro-electric power (HEP) and it will all be discharged downstream into the same watercourse via an outfall pipe at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 38502 18710.
The second application is for an impounding licence to impound water immediately upstream of the abstraction point on Glencoyne Beck to facilitate HEP generation.
