The UK has 14 overseas territories in a variety of locations around the world. On 14 September 2011 the government announced a new strategy which sought to strengthen engagement between the UK and its territories.

This paper provides an overview of the assistance that the Home Office provides to the territories. It is one of a number of departmental papers which have helped to inform the government’s white paper on the overseas territories, which is expected to be published this year.
