This research was conducted by the National College for Teaching and Leadership in the summer of 2014.
The professional bodies for chemistry, mathematics, science and computing sent a survey to all scholarship applicants. The findings suggest that:
- availability and interest of scholarships can turn an interest in teaching into an application for teacher training
- for some the availability of scholarships is a hook into application for teacher training
- some respondents cited the additional benefits offered by professional bodies as the reason for applying for a scholarship
The report provides evidence that scholarships are important in attracting applicants for teacher training.
