2021 marks the return of the UK’s first report to UNESCO on its implementation of the 1954 Hague Convention, following its ratification of the Convention and acceding to its two Protocols in 2017. The Convention and its two Protocols are designed to protect cultural property from destruction and looting during armed conflict, including monuments, archaeological sites, works of arts and important artefacts.

The UK’s ratification of the Convention and acceding to its two Protocols demonstrates the UK’s continued commitment to protecting cultural property during conflict. The report to UNESCO details the ways in which the UK government has implemented the Convention and its two Protocols over the past four years, including measures taken by the government, the military and other associated parties.
