Details of the application

Tim Smith has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is for a licence to abstract (take) water from an unnamed tributary of the River Broad at National Grid Reference ST 51839 10658, Pen Hill, Pen Moor, Yeovil to transfer it to a wetland without intervening use. The application is to abstract water all year as follows:

  • 38 cubic metres an hour
  • 890 cubic metres a day
  • 324,850 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 10.3 litres per second.

Abstraction is for the purpose of nutrient capture and retainment within the wetland. All of the abstracted water will be discharged from the wetland downstream to the same source of supply.

Tim Smith has also applied for a second licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the unnamed tributary of the River Broad via an adjustable weir at the same location to divert flow towards the wetland. Flow exceeding 10.3 litres per second will bypass the weir and remain in the unnamed tributary of the River Broad downstream of the weir.
