Details

On 11 October 2016 the Tower Hamlets commissioners wrote to the Secretary of State with their response to the Mayor’s third 6-monthly report on progress against the council’s best value strategy and action plan. In their report the commissioners recommended a return of the grants function to the council and an end to their oversight of the council’s procurement practices and processes.

On 2 December the Department for Communities and Local Government wrote to Tower Hamlets council outlining a revised intervention package proposed by the Secretary of State, and invited representations.

After careful consideration by the Secretary of State of the representations received from Tower Hamlets Council on 15 December, the Department for Communities and Local Government wrote to the council on 16 January 2017 confirming the revised intervention package.
