Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from AE Rodda & Son Limited.

Application number

Regulated facility type

Section 6.8 Part A(1)(e) Treating and processing milk with the quantity of milk received being more than 200 tonnes per day (average value on annual basis) (main activity) Section 5.4 Part A(1)(a)(i) Disposal of non-hazardous waste in a facility with a capacity exceeding 50 tonnes per day by physico-chemical treatment (secondary activity) Section 5.4 Part A(1)(a)(ii) Disposal of non-hazardous waste in a facility with a capacity exceeding 50 tonnes per day by biological treatment (secondary activity)

Directly Associated Activities: Steam generation plant, storage of handling of waste, surface water discharge, storage and handling of chemicals, a refrigeration plant and storage of final product.

This variation is to increase the maximum volume of effluent discharged to ground (via existing mineshaft) from 150m3 to 480m3 per day at The Creamery in Scorrier, Cornwall. This discharge firsts flows underground for just over 3km through the Great County Adit before discharging to the Carnon river. Associated with this increase in discharge volume the operator is also proposing to upgrade the effluent treatment plant from a system capable of handling 8m3/hr to one capable of handling 20m3/hr and add a 150m3 balance tank to accommodate this.
