This guide provides information to schools, initial teacher training (ITT) providers and trainees on:

  • bursary rates
  • subject and candidate eligibility
  • how the payments are made

The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) is responsible for allocating and funding teacher training places. NCTL funds some ITT places through training bursary payments. Bursaries are available for eligible trainees on eligible postgraduate ITT courses in England. Bursary amounts will vary depending on teaching subject and degree class or highest relevant academic qualification.
