The implementation plan for Individual Electoral Registration explains how the new system will affect citizens and electoral administrators and how this change will be delivered. In particular, it outlines the timetable for the work and how this will be managed alongside other activities electoral administrators will have to carry out over that period.

The ‘Simplifying the transition to IER’ research report presents the preliminary findings of the 2012 data matching pilots which are designed to test whether matching data from the Electoral Register to other trusted public data sources could provide a way to simplify the transition to Individual Electoral Registration for the majority of electors. The findings support this policy of ‘Confirmation’ and outlines what additional testing will be undertaken prior to the full evaluation which will be published early next year.
