Report structure and information
Updated 15 February 2024
This report presents people with tuberculosis (TB) disease notified to the National TB Surveillance System (NTBS) in England and aims to describe the epidemiology of TB disease in England up to the end of 2022.
This report is produced using a finalised data set and thus data presented here is not ‘provisional’ as reported in the more regular but less comprehensive quarterly statistics. However, changes can still occur to reported numbers, due to late notifications and updates to records as more information becomes available. Therefore, data presented in the most recent report supersedes those previously published.
Most health protection functions are devolved to the other UK nations’ public health teams so this report only covers TB notifications and data from England.
The report consists of the following chapters:
- Executive summary
- TB incidence and epidemiology in England, 2022
- TB diagnosis and microbiology in England, 2022
- TB treatment and outcomes in England, 2022
- TB in children in England, 2022
- Methodology and definitions
These will be followed by further chapters describing:
- TB prevention in England, 2022
- insight analysis and progress against monitoring indicators in relation to the TB action plan for England, 2021 to 2026 (jointly published with NHS England).
