Report structure and information

Report series

This report presents people with tuberculosis (TB) disease notified to the national TB surveillance system (NTBS) in England and aims to describe the epidemiology of TB disease in England up to the end of 2023.

This report is produced using a finalised dataset and thus data presented here is not “provisional” as reported in the more regular but less comprehensive quarterly statistics. However, changes can still occur to numbers reported due to late notifications and updates to records as more information becomes available. Therefore, data presented in the most recent report supersedes those previously published.

Most health protection functions are devolved to the other UK nations’ public health teams in the UK, so this report only covers TB notifications and data from England.

The report comprises the following chapters:

  1. Executive summary
  2. Tuberculosis incidence and epidemiology, England, 2023
  3. Tuberculosis prevention, England, 2023
  4. Tuberculosis diagnosis and microbiology, England, 2023
  5. Tuberculosis treatment and outcomes, England, 2023
  6. Tuberculosis in children aged 0 to 17 years, England, 2023
  7. Methodology and definitions
  8. Authorship and citation
