UK ban on Russian oil and oil products

This guidance sets out the implementation of the Russian oil import ban and how businesses should navigate the prohibitions and requirements introduced in the UK’s sanctions legislation.

Details

On 8 March 2022 we announced that the United Kingdom would transition away from Russian oil and oil products by the end of 2022.

The necessary legislative changes took effect from 5 December 2022, prohibiting:

  • entry of those products into the UK
  • ancillary services

This guidance is to help businesses ensure effective compliance with the sanctions and take the necessary steps to identify alternative suppliers. It should be read alongside the legislation, which takes precedence over this guidance.
