Details
All Chief Mates, Chief Engineers and Second Engineers operating UK flagged vessels must have knowledge of UKLAP to Grade 2 level.
You do not have to take an exam but it is your employer’s responsibility to make sure you have this knowledge before you start work on board a ship.
This is guidance to all Owners, Masters, Officers, Ratings and those concerned with maritime training. This guidance should be read with How to apply for a FSE for deck and engineer officers and replaces the syllabuses published on UK seafarer careers: Training provision, information and examination syllabuses.
