Extension of the Application of the Existing Cumulation Arrangements under the UK-Mexico Trade Continuity Agreement

THE JOINT COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Trade Continuity Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United Mexican States, done at Mexico City on 15 December 2020 (the “Trade Continuity Agreement”), which incorporates certain trade-related provisions of the Economic Partnership, Political Coordination and Cooperation Agreement between the European Community and its Member States, of the one part, and the United Mexican States, of the other part, done at Brussels on 8 December 1997 (the “Incorporated Agreement”);

Recalling that Paragraph 7 of Article 3a of Annex III to Decision 2/2000 of the Incorporated Agreement provides that paragraphs 1 through 6 of that Article will cease to apply 3 years after entry into force of the Trade Continuity Agreement, meaning on 1 January 2024, unless the Parties agree to extend that period;

Having regard to Paragraph 7 of Article 3a of Annex III to Decision 2/2000 of the Incorporated Agreement, empowering the Joint Committee to extend the period;

HAS DECIDED AS FOLLOWS:

Article 1

In accordance with Paragraph 7 of Article 3a of Annex III to Decision 2/2000 of the Incorporated Agreement, as set out in the Annex to the Trade Continuity Agreement, Paragraphs 1 to 6 of that Article will apply until the entry into force of a new bilateral free trade agreement between the United Kingdom and Mexico.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on 1 January 2024.
