Details

The UK-PHRST is a partnership between Public Health England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). It was set up following the West Africa Ebola crisis to develop a system to help countries better control disease outbreaks that threaten public health before they can develop into global emergencies.

This report sets out the 3 integrated objectives of the UK-PHRST:

  • outbreak response - early investigation and rapid operational support to help reduce transmission of diseases and limit their impact
  • research - operational and other relevant research during and between outbreaks to generate evidence to improve present and future responses
  • capacity building - strengthen in-country and regional capacity to prevent and respond to outbreaks
