UK Space Agency BASS: Meet the panellists

As part of our changes to the way we assess proposal we receive under the ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) programme, we have set up an assessment panel populated by a group of independent experts who bring a range of skills, knowledge, and experience with them from across the space sector.

The role of the panellists is to test the business case for each proposal we receive under the BASS programme, and provide a recommendation on whether to support it going forward to the next stage of the process. This helps ensure we are supporting companies to present their proposals in the strongest way, while testing their commercialisation strategy.

Companies are invited by the UK Space Agency Space Apps team to present their Outline Proposals to the panel members at one of our quarterly panel meetings which gives the panellists an opportunity to ask questions on the details of the proposals and gain a more in depth understanding of the commercial outcomes that are being forecast.

Although organised by the Space Apps and Data team, each panel is chaired by one of the panellists on a rotating basis. A member of the Space Apps and Data team facilitates the meeting and attends as an observer to ensure the meetings run smoothly.

After each panel session the chair collates the feedback from the other panellists and provides a recommendation back the Space Apps and Data team on whether to support the proposal going forward or not, and any feedback that they would like to provide to companies if applicable. This feedback is then provided to the companies by the Space Apps and Data team, along with details about next steps.

In the attachment on this page you will find the biographies of the panellists who support this important activity.
