This joint statement was co-signed by 41 contracting parties, following the Eighth and Ninth Review Meeting of the IAEA Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS). It reinforces political support to Ukraine and its efforts to deliver its obligations under the convention following Russia’s illegal invasion. It condemns Russia’s actions in Ukraine and the impact this has had on global nuclear safety.
The Convention on Nuclear Safety commits contracting parties operating land-based civil nuclear power plants to maintain a high level of safety through subscribing to fundamental safety principles.
Contracting parties are required to submit national reports on the implementation of their obligations for peer review.
