The Environment Agency is responsible, with others, for implementing and enforcing regulations designed to protect our environment. A crucial element of our role is to engage with businesses whose activities may impact on the environment and who are, or may be, covered by regulations. In particular, we need to address the environmental impacts of SMEs, which are responsible for about half of all serious industrial pollution incidents.
