HMRC commissioned this research to understand the attitudes towards the use, promotion and publication of ESS by EPOS providers and the motivations for and attitudes toward using ESS. The research also sought to understand the availability and methods of access to ESS by UK businesses.

The research was carried out from October 2018 to February 2019 and involved 303 quantitative telephone interviews with businesses followed by 50 in-depth interviews with businesses and EPOS industry stakeholders.
