United Utilities Water Limited: application made to abstract water

United Utilities Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary a full licence to abstract water from four boreholes within the West Cumbria Permo-Triassic sandstone aquifers, South Egremont, Cumbria, at National Grid References NY 00 08, NX 99 08, NY 00 09 and NX 99 09.
On 31 March 2019, the terms of the current licence reduce the daily maximum permitted abstraction from 11,000 cubic metres to 8,000 cubic metres. This application is to keep this at 11,000 cubic metres per day.
Hourly quantities from each borehole are as follows:
- 126 cubic metres from NY 00 08 (at an instantaneous rate of 35 litres per second)
- 126 cubic metres from NX 99 08 (at an instantaneous rate of 35 litres per second)
- 126 cubic metres from NY 00 09 (at an instantaneous rate of 35 litres per second)
- 82.8 cubic metres from NX 99 09 (at an instantaneous rate of 23 litres per second)
The water will be used for public water supply.
