United Utilities Water Limited: application made to abstract water
Published 6 December 2024
Applies to England
Details of the application
United Utilities Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial numbers 2672526020 and 2672405009, which authorise the abstraction of water from surface water at National Grid References SD 51 64 and SD 49 45, for public water supply.
The proposed changes are as follows:
For licence serial number 2672526020
- Add the purpose of ‘transfer of water to flush a pipe for suppressing methane gas buildup’ to the licence, with no restrictions on the river flows at which water can be taken.
For licence serial number 2672405009
- The current licence requires the applicant to abstract all water transferred from National Grid Reference SD 51 64 under licence 2672526020 to surface water for public water supply. This proposal seeks to amend this condition to exclude the volume of water transferred for the new purpose of gas suppression.
- Change the location where the residual flow of the surface water is currently measured, as required by the licence.
