HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) commissioned Ipsos to explore traders’ and customs intermediaries’ experiences of IT systems and software (including Internet of Things devices) among UK businesses for managing supply chain information.

The research aimed to explore:

  • the terminology used by businesses to describe the systems and software
  • the benefits and challenges to businesses from using these systems
  • the reasons why businesses were not using these systems
  • whether businesses would be comfortable sharing data held on these systems with government to facilitate trade

The research comprised of 50 in-depth interviews with traders and 30 customs intermediaries. The research was conducted between February and March 2023.
