This research took place in 2 stages, 804 quantitative telephone interviews and a follow up of 30 qualitative telephone interviews with small businesses to explore:

  • their general perception of the future of cash and payment methods
  • which payment methods they currently offer
  • reasons for offering different payment methods
  • how they could be motivated to offer a wider choice of electronic methods in future

In-depth qualitative interviews were also carried out with 30 consumers to understand the factors that drive their choice of payment methods, their perception of future trends in payment methods and how they themselves might behave in response to these changes.
