As part of the transition to net zero, government committed to phasing out the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans in 2035.
The V2X (vehicle-to-everything) Innovation Programme aims to address barriers to enabling energy flexibility from bi-directional electric vehicle charging.
UKRI Innovate UK delivered the V2X (vehicle-to-everything) Innovation Programme of up to £12.6 million on behalf of Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
Phase 2
Phase 2 (up to £9.4 million) supported small scale V2X bi-directional charging demonstrations. It closed to applications on 10 May 2023. We held:
- an online information event on 21 March 2023 to provide further information on how to apply for the V2X Phase 2 competition
- a Phase 2 Market Engagement Event on 25 January 2023
Phase 1
Phase 1 of the competition closed to applications on 4 May 2022. Read about Phase 1 successful projects.
Phase 1 (over £3.2 million) supported the development of V2X bi-directional charging prototype hardware, software and business models.
Background
The 2021 Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan and the 2021 Net Zero Strategy, identified key DESNZ policy priorities to enable the transition to a smart, flexible and decarbonised energy system.
The V2X Innovation Programme forms part of the Flexibility Innovation Programme, which sits within the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio.
