Details
As part of the transition to net zero, government has committed to phasing out the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans in 2035. The (up to £12.6 million) V2X (vehicle-to-everything) Innovation Programme aims to address barriers to enabling energy flexibility from bi-directional electric vehicle charging.
Phase 1 winners (£3.2 million) supports the development of V2X bi-directional charging prototype hardware, software or business models.
The Phase 2 competition supporting small scale V2X demonstrations launched in 2023: we published details of the successful Phase 2 projects on 20 December 2023.
Background
The 2021 Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan and the 2021 Net Zero Strategy, identified the former key BEIS policy priorities to enable the transition to a smart, flexible and decarbonised energy system.
The V2X Innovation Programme forms part of the Flexibility Innovation Programme, which sits within the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio.
