Change your VAT registration details

Find out how to make changes to your VAT registration details using your VAT online account.

Changing your details

You should use your VAT online account to change:

  • business contact details — unless you’re an overseas customer
  • repayment bank details — unless you’re changing details for a partnership
  • return dates

To do this:

  1. Log into your business tax account.

  2. Select ‘Your VAT account’ then ‘Manage your VAT’.

  3. Then select ‘Your business details’ and you will see an option to edit each field.

Changing your business name

If you have a Company Registration Number (CRN) you must tell Companies House if your business name has changed.

We will be notified of your new business name by Companies House. It will be shown on your business tax account within 15 working days.

Overseas customers — update your business name or phone number

If you are an overseas customer, you should contact HMRC to get form VAT484 to update your business name or phone number.

If you are changing details within a partnership

To update details within a partnership contact HMRC to get a form VAT484 and send it back with form VAT2, ‘Partnership details’.

If you take over someone else’s VAT responsibilities

You must use the VAT1 paper form and form VAT68 to tell HMRC if you take over the VAT responsibilities of someone who:

  • has died
  • is ill and unable to manage their own affairs

You must include the details of the date of death or the date the illness started.

You must complete and return these forms within 21 days of when you take over.

If you’re unable to change your details online

If you’re unable to change your details through your VAT online account, you should contact HMRC for help.
