Two important tools have been developed for radiological impact assessment purposes:
- Probabilistic accident consequences evaluation (PACE) which is used to assess the consequences of an accidental release of radioactive material to the atmosphere.
- PC-CREAM 08 which is used to assess the consequences of planned routine discharges to the atmosphere, rivers and seas.
These tools include a number of models that simulate the dispersion of radionuclides through the environment and their accumulation in the biosphere. An important consideration when using a model is to ensure it is fit for purpose and has been verified and validated. The verification and validation studies that have been undertaken are described in this report.
