Local authorities are being invited to bid for funds to support the most vulnerable in their communities during the winter.

The warm homes, healthy people fund announced today aims to protect individuals and communities from the effects of severe winter weather due to cold housing.

The funds are for local initiatives that demonstrate how local authorities will reduce deaths over the winter months.

It will provide funding to:

  • deliver energy efficiency and heating improvements to the most vulnerable people
  • provide residents with benefits advice
  • ensure better public awareness of the impacts of cold weather
  • provide staff and volunteers with fuel poverty/cold weather awareness training
