Details

The Office of the Secretary of State for Wales commissioned Professor Stuart Cole, Emeritus Professor of Transport at the University of South Wales, to produce a detailed analysis of a Parkway station at Felindre, which could be shared when meeting with stakeholders including the Welsh Government and local authorities.

Professor Stuart Cole submitted his report on a proposed West Wales Parkway station on the Swansea District Line at the former Felindre steelworks site.

The report concludes that a Parkway station at Felindre will:

  • deliver journey time savings for commuters travelling from Carmarthen to Cardiff of up to a quarter of an hour each way, by cutting the need to travel through the centre of Swansea;
  • encourage a modal shift from car to rail that will reduce congestion on major roads in the region; and
  • deliver better connectivity for commuters and communities across south-west Wales including Llanelli, Ammanford and Gorseinon while protecting existing services to Swansea and Neath.
