ECB05: where to apply, the policy

Updated 31 January 2024

Applications for short-term visas, Temporary Work – Creative Worker and International Sportsperson for 12 months or less

You can make applications for a visit visa, a short-term study visa, Temporary Work – Creative Worker, and International Sportsperson (where the applicant is applying for a period of 12 months or less) entry clearance in any visa application centre, British diplomatic mission or consular post overseas where entry clearance applications are accepted.

You should be present legally in that country or territory you’re applying from. If you are applying for a Temporary Worker – Creative Worker or International Sportsperson (where the applicant is applying for a period of 12 months or less) entry clearance you must also be in the country or territory for a similar purpose to the activity you are proposing to do in the UK.

Find a visa application centre.

Applications for other entry clearance

Applications for other types of entry clearance should be made in the country in which you are living. Applications for entry clearance under Global Talent or Youth Mobility Scheme routes can also be made in countries or territories where you have permission to be there for more than 6 months.

Where there is no post in the country where you live, you should make the application to the appropriate application post.
