Whittington Range Complex firing times 9 to 15 November 2024

The permitted points of access and travel across the range and through the area of Hopwas Wood remain fully in force. No other access is permitted. All are requested to use the permitted routes as shown on the information boards mounted at access points.

Saturday 9 November 7.30am to 5.30pm
Sunday 10 November No firing
Monday 11 November 7.30am to 5.30pm
Tuesday 12 November No firing
Wednesday 13 November 7.30am to 5.30pm
Thursday 14 November 7.30am to 5.30pm
Friday 15 November No firing

The bridleway from Common Lane via the range and Hopwas Hey Lane to Hopwas Bridge on the canal will be closed as per the Byelaws when firing is due to take place till after firing is complete.

Hopwas Woods is out of bounds for 1 hour prior to and 1 hour after the firing timings listed.

Please stick to the only access route along the bridleway when the Range Are is open to the public.

Gates are installed on both the Hopwas bridge and the Tamhorn bridge. They will be locked when firing is taking place and locked in the open position when no firing is taking place.

If you are requested by a Military Sentry not to proceed past a given point please adhere to their instructions as they are given for your own safety. All sentries are equipped with body cameras to ensure all behaviours are correct.

No fires of any kind or BBQs are allowed in the woods. If you see someone with equipment that can cause a fire, such as BBQs, you can report it by phoning 0800 169 5558.

Military Personnel may still carry out dry training, none live firing training, within the bounds of the MOD lands within Hopwas Woods during this period.

Your safety

Do not enter the danger area when in use, this could result in loss of life. For your own safety do not touch any military debris, it may be dangerous.

If the red flags and/or lights are hoisted, regardless of the timings, do not enter the training area. This is a danger to life.

Should we use the range on a non-firing date, we will inform you by telephone or email giving no less than 24 hours’ notice.

On a “firing” date if it looks like nobody has arrived on the range, and you wish to enter the firing area, please telephone one of the numbers above.
