Wolf Minerals (UK) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number SW/047/0002/001 which authorises the abstraction of water from the Tory Pond impoundment of the Hooksbury Stream at Drakelands Mine, near Lower Hooksbury Wood, Plympton, near Plymouth at National Grid Reference SX 55610 59270.
The variation applied for is to:
- Renew the licence to the Tamar Abstraction Licensing Strategy common end date of 31 March 2026.
- Change the abstraction location from National Grid Reference SX 55610 59270 to SX 55682 59270.
- Change the National Grid References of Lower Hooksbury Diversion Channel points ‘B’ and ‘C’ referred to in conditions 9.1 and 9.2 of the licence respectively.
- Add a new condition to stipulate that should water quality in the Tory Pond exceed permitting limits, augmentation of the Lower Hooksbury Diversion Channel will be suspended. If available, an alternative source of water shall be used to augment flows. If augmentation is suspended, isolated pools shall be inspected for stranded fish and any moved to the Tory Brook at the earliest opportunity.
- Reduce the environmental monitoring requirements of condition 9.7 and Schedule B of the licence by ceasing to monitor from 5 (S2, S3, S4, S5 and T3) of the 11 licensed monitoring points.
- Alter condition 9.8.1 of the licence regarding provision of a new ‘Portworthy’ stream, and associated requirements, in accordance with changes within the Portworthy Compensation Channel document dated November 2016 in accordance with Environmental Permit variation, EPR/FB3639RK/V002, issued on 10 May 2017.
