Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Mother Drain via a new culvert at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 61379 99415 to transfer it to an un-named ditch at NGR SK 61375 99409 without intervening use.
The purpose of the abstraction is for floodplain habitat creation and to improve water quality in the Torne catchment.
Excess water in the flood storage area will discharge back to the Mother Drain downstream via an existing culvert at NGR SK 62017 99052.
