Anniversary of the 2014 downing of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine: UK statement
Deputy Ambassador Deirdre Brown marks the eighth anniversary of the downing of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine and the loss of 298 people.
Thank you Mr Chair. This year marked the 8th anniversary of the downing of Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine and the loss of 298 people from 17 countries, including 10 British nationals. The United Kingdom expresses its deepest condolences to all those who lost their loved ones.
The United Kingdom reiterates its full support for the efforts over eight years to pursue truth, justice and accountability, to provide answers for the friends and families of those who so tragically died.
The trial in the Netherlands will conclude later this year. We continue to support the work of the Joint Investigation Team and commend its painstaking dedication.
The United Kingdom supports the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Australia in their call for the Russian Federation to accept State responsibility and to cooperate fully with all efforts to establish accountability, in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2166.
