The United Kingdom would like to thank Norway and Ghana for their sterling efforts to secure an agreement on this resolution.

We welcome the resolution’s strong focus on tackling the scourge of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. This is an important step forward.

This resolution rightly highlights the primacy of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

UNCLOS has made a significant contribution to global peace, prosperity and security by providing the consistent and clear legal framework for all activities in the ocean and seas.
