UN Human Rights Council 46: UK statement on Violence against Children
The UK's International Human Rights Ambassador delivered this statement during the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Representative Secretary General on the Violence against Children.
Thank you, Madam President,
The United Kingdom would like to thank the Special Representative for her report and for her work on this agenda, in particular her support to the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children.
The UK is committed to protecting vulnerable children and helping them to grow up free from violence throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Violence has significant and lasting impacts on children’s wellbeing, ability to learn and future prospects. The UK is also committed to giving children an active role in developing, especially on issues that affect them disproportionately such as violence.
The UK therefore welcomes the Special Representative’s work with Member States to ensure that child protection is included in their COVID-19 response and that children are part of the solution in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as we build back better.
The need to support education and protect children has never been greater.
That is why the UK is putting girls’ education at the heart of our G7 presidency to accelerate action, as well as by co-hosting the Financing Summit for the Global Partnership for Education with Kenya in July.
